Several New Englanders are busy making plans to travel west – to the USA League Tennis presented by Lincoln National Championships. Topnotch at Stowe Resort & Spa is the official sponsor of USA League Tennis within New England.
The winning teams from the recently completed USA Tennis New England USA League Tennis Adult and Senior Sectional Championships will be moving on to national competition.
In all, New England will be send 19 teams to the national championships, being held in California and Arizona.
The first national competitions will take place September 26-29. The men’s and women’s 5.0 national competition will be held in Palm Springs. The Maine Maniacs/BFG’s (Bangor, Maine, captain Jeffrey Courtney) and Woburn (Woburn, Mass., captain Jennifer Crabtree) will represent New England. The same weekend, Willows (North Andover, Mass., captain Eric Kalajian) and the West Bay Breakers (Rhode Island, captain Terri Shaffer), will represent New England at the 3.0 nationals held in Tucson, Arizona.
The 3.5 and 2.5 nationals will take place from October 3-6 in Tucson and Palm Springs, respectively. Carpet Diem (Rhode Island, captain John Panzica) and Natick (Natick, Mass., captain Ellen Levine) will represent New England in Tucson, while the Woodland Spinners (Falmouth, Maine, captain Helene Quintana) will take on the rest of the 2.5 competition in Palm Springs.
The 4.0 nationals will take place from October 10-13 in Tucson. Nashua (New Hamphire, captain Bob Grace) will represent New England’s men, while Tightly Strung (Maine, captain Debra Choroszy) will compete for the women.
October 17-20 will be a very busy weekend as several New England teams will be in action. Portland (Maine, captain Jim Litrocapes) and Rally Point (Greenville, R.I., captain Lisa St. Angelo) will face off against the nation’s best 4.5 teams in San Diego. The senior nationals also get underway that weekend. The Senior 3.5 teams will be competing in Palm Springs, with Centre Court (East Providence, R.I., captain Mike Cohen) and Newport T.C. (New Hampshire, captain Linda St. Onge) representing USA Tennis New England. Meanwhile, Tucson will be hosting the 4.0 senior national championships. The Senior Racquets (Western Massachusetts, captain John Golonka) and the Spin Doctors (Maine, captain Tyrrell Hunter) will be competing in Tucson.
The national competitions wrap up October 24-27 in California. Dunes Club (Rhode Island, captain Jack Dusel) and Maine-ly Delights (Maine, captain Mary Hamlet) will be competing in San Diego against the best senior 3.0 teams in the country for the chance to call themselves national champions. The senior 4.5 national championship will take place in Palm Springs, with the Stallions (Eastern Massachusetts, captain Curt Anderson) and Pond view (Westerly, R.I., captain Eszter Chase) trying to bring their respective ttle home to New England.
